Share Your Easter Bentos

Hello to our lovely bento friends! Easter has just passed and by now I'm sure your little ones are back in school this Monday with fond Easter egg hunting memories. My family had our Easter celebration on Saturday where we dyed eggs, held an egg hunt, and took turns picking up the gigantic bowl of Jello eggs I made. (over 100!) Easter-Bento This snack bento is one you will find in Yum-Yum Bento Box, but in the book you can only really see the cute little chick. We made three versions, one with a chick and two different bunnies. As you can see, it's filled with delicious fresh ingredients with some sweet little Jello beans for a little dessert. We want to hear and see what you did for Easter! Did you make lots of rabbit themed bento? Are lots of egg bentos on the menu for this week with all those hard-boiled eggs to consume?

Yummy Teriyaki Chicken Wings & Drumettes

Chicken-Wings Do you have a favorite chicken wing recipe? In Yum-Yum Bento Box we have my mother-in-law's special chicken wing recipe: teriyaki style! This sauce is the same used for the Teriyaki Meatballs in the book as well. To fry the wings, simply rinse the frozen wing or drumette in water, then coat in flour. Shake off the excess and then fry until golden brown. To prepare the sauce, simply mix 1 cup of light soy sauce with 10 tbsp sugar in a bowl. Once the chicken is done frying, let it soak in the sauce. The longer it soaks the more flavor you will have!

Maki Ogawa & Family Safe

I am sorry that I haven't though to post this before, but I just wanted to let our book fans know that Makiko Ogawa and her family are safe after the deadly earthquake in Japan. I emailed her that day and received a reply a couple of hours later and she informed me that she had picked up her two sons and they were waiting for word from her husband. She has since heard from him and though he could not get home due to transportation being shut down, he was safe. Although I'm sure they're having a hard time dealing with the various issues coming up in the wake of the quake, it's always good to know that people are safe. If you would like to make a donation to the relief efforts in Japan, the American Red Cross has the option to channel your donation directly to that specific effort. When donating through other means, please always be careful that you are donating to and/or through a reliable and reputable organization.
