Happy Belated New Year to all our bento fans! We hope that the first month of 2011 has been a great one for all of you and that you’ve all been having fun with our cookbook!
We have some great news for you all. Maki, Quirk Books, and myself have all pitched in to offer a great giveaway in the spirit of the new year.

Three lucky winners from our giveaway will receive a Yum-Yum Bento Box Fukubukuro or “Lucky Bag”. In Japan, the fukubukuro is a sealed bag containing items of value greater than the bag it’s packaged in. Together, we’ve assembled a great lucky bag containing some great items for making your own cute bentos with our recipes!
The prizes will be in a cute bento bag and will come with a copy of Yum-Yum Bento Box. However, these are not just regular copies of the book.

That’s right! These books are autographed by both Pikko and Maki, the only three copies in the world signed by both authors! Even if you already own a copy, wouldn’t you love to receive the bag and the signed copy? It’s easy to enter.

I love flowers and nature scenery. I haven’t made many bento’s but I like the over all look to be that of a blooming garden. I tend to fallow the season to get inspired.
I love penguin bentos! The baby penguin ones, especially. The little round faces are just too cute. :3

Personally, I love any bento with cute faces…but hello kitty bentos are my fave!
=^^=
I think that the penguins are cutest for bentos
I think animal bentos are the cutest. There are so many possibilities though, and I love character bentos (Totoro, etc.). I think most of all, whatever the subject matter, I like to see well designed bentos, perhaps even depicting a little scene
I think bunnies make the cutest bento!
To me, as long as it has facial features, it qualifies as cute! I think it would be adorable to have a whole box of “character” nibbles – pork products would look like pigs, dairy-based one like cows, fish like fish and the veggies can just have their own cute expressions
I also “liked” Home Sweet Home on Facebook. All because I love your book.
Just discovered your three other blogs – love them all!
I’m aways a fan of farm animals, they make such cute bentos.
Little pandas make awesomw bentos! Love them!
Hi Ladies, thanks for the chance of a cool giveaway! I think kitties make the cutest bentos. Since those are relatively easy to make, that may also influence my opinion!
It would be nice to see bentos that tell stories…like 3 little pigs, or charlotte’s web…hmmm, i guess animals is what i like to see. hehe.
I love to make theme bentos that go along with key calendar dates – back to school, easter etc.
Wow! I don’t know if I can pick only one. I love the little mushrooms, the chicks and the penguins. I think they are all adorable!
I think that the cutest bento theme or character are bears, pokemon, and keroppi! They’re just so adorable =D
I love the penguin onigiri, they make me wish I liked nori.
HAPPY NEW YEAR! And what an awesome giveaway to start the year with.
I think ladybirds are cute in a bento! They have a literary reference in David Mitchell’s latest book: The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet. I will post the quote below.

And ‘liked’ yum-yum bento box as well as Home Sweet ‘Quirky’ Home on FB and commented.
QUOTE
She notices the ladybird on his thumb. ‘Tentô-mushi.’
In his eagerness to comprehend, he mishears: ‘O-ben-tô-mushi?’
‘O-ben-tô-mushi is “luncheon-box bug”.’ She smiles.‘This,’ she indicates the ladybird, ‘is O-ten-tô-mushi.’
‘Tentô-mushi,’ he says, and she nods with a schoolmistress’s approval.
